KARACHI: The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) on Wednesday named three cueists for competing in the inaugural World Snooker U-16 Open being held at Saint Petersburg, Russia, from Oct 1 to 8.

The PBSF has decided to set up a 10-day camp for the Russia-bound cueists at the Champions Snooker Academy in Lahore from Oct 18 to 28.

On completion of the camp, the cueists will assemble in Karachi before embarking to Saint Petersburg in the wee hours of Oct 1.

“Pakistan had bright chances of winning laurels in the event,” the PBSF President Munawwar Hussain Shaikh told Dawn.

He said all the cueists including the reigning world under-18 champion Mohammad Naseem Akhtar have the potential to return with flying colours. The other two

cueists are Shaikh Mohammad Mudassir and Mohammad Umar Khan.

It is pertinent to mention that Naseem is the reigning national under-18 and under-21 snooker champion while Mudassir is the losing under-18 finalist and Umar is the under-18 semi-finalist.

“We are sending three cueists aimed at giving maximum international exposure to the second tier,” he added.

Team: Mohammad Naseem Akhtar, Shaikh Mohammad Mudassir, Mohammad Umar Khan. Munawwar Hussain Shaikh (delegate).
