Captain Marvel: Villains coming soon

Marvel announced key details surrounding its first female-led superhero film Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson.

Captain Marvel, which is due to hit theatres on March 8, 2019, will take place in the ‘90s before the events of Iron Man which kicked off the Marvel cinematic universe in 2008.

Larson will be seen in the film taking on the powerful aliens The Skrulls, who are prominent figures in Marvel comics but have never been featured on the big screen before.

“I think that making sure that Captain Marvel is not somebody who is a hero in spite of her femininity is really important. She’s a very strong character and her being a woman is part of that strength,” script writer Nicole Perlman said previously.

Dark Universe stars Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp

Universal Pictures has titled its planned monster movie series Dark Universe that begins with The Mummy starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.

The cinematic universe will feature films based on the studio’s catalogue of classic movie monsters such as Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the Invisible Man.

Cruise and Boutella gathered with Russell Crowe, who also stars in The Mummy as Dr Henry Jekyll, while Johnny Depp will portray the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem is set to portray Frankenstein’s monster in future films.

Crowe’s Dr Jekyll is set to connect all the films together as his character leads an organisation known as Prodigium, that tracks down, studies and destroys evil monsters. Next is a remake of Bride of Frankenstein which will arrive in theatres on February 14, 2019.
