MARDAN: Prof Mohammad Khurshid Khan, the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, takes charge of his office today (Monday).

He is the first vice-chancellor appointed on permanent basis since the incident of lynching of a student on the campus of Abdul Wali Khan University on April 13, varsity officials told Dawn on Sunday.

The university remained closed for several months after the occurrence.

As the university’s previous vice-chancellor Prof Ihsan Ali had retired about three weeks before the lynching incident on March 21, Prof Jehanzib Khalil was appointed as acting vice-chancellor when the university was reopened.
