PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday said his party wanted the national and provincial assemblies to complete term as the continuation of democratic process would ensure the provision of due share in national resources to all federating units.

He was addressing a special meeting called at Watan Kor, the party’s secretariat, here to discuss the matters on the NA-4, Peshawar, by-elections.

Mr Sherpao said the strengthening of democratic institutions would bring political stability and financial prosperity in the country.

He said his party would go all-out to protect the rights of Pakhtuns and ensure peace and stability in the region.

The QWP chief said Pakhtuns had rendered matchless sacrifices for the country but unfortunately rights were denied to them.

He said the party would continue striving to protect the rights of Pakhtuns in and outside assemblies.

Mr Sherpao asked party leaders and activists to strengthen their bond with the people and work for their development, the Pakhtun cause, and peace and stability in the region.

Noted among the participants were former QWP senator Haji Ghufran, party’s provincial general secretary Hashim Babar, information secretary Tariq Ahmad Khan, secretary (political training) Asad Afridi, distract Peshawar chairman Haji Mohammad Shafi Daud Zai and general secretary Saifullah Khan.

Three district councillors also attended the meeting.

Reviewing the party position in NA-4 constituency and preparations for the by-election, the participants empowered Aftab Sherpao to take any decision about the NA-4 by-election.

They were told that leaders of other parties had approached the party’s leaders for support in the by-elections.

The participants also reviewed the country’s political situation and party’s organisational matters and made strategies for the future course of action.

They reposed confidence in the leadership of Aftab Sherpao, endorsed his policies and appreciated his contributions to the strengthening of the party and protection of the rights of Pakhtuns.
