SWABI: The health authorities and district administration launched door-to-door campaign to control chikungunya and other deadly diseases in Gandaf, a village in mountainous region of Gadoon Amazai, on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Mutasimbillah along with a special team of doctors and paramedics visited the affected village. chikungunya broke out a few days ago in Gandaf area for the first time in history of the district.

The deputy commissioner said that health authorities were told to focus on the village and work round the clock to provide treatment to patients and concentrate on eradication of chikungunya.

He said that district administration also launched a cleanness campaign not only in Gandaf but also across the district.

Officials present on the occasion said that pollution and garbage heaps usually became breeding ground for mosquitoes that bit people and caused dangerous diseases like chikungunya.

KULI KUTCHERI: DPO Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf has said that police can control firing in the air with the help of jirga members and local people.

He was addressing a Kuli Kutcheri in Topi. The gathering was attended by Topi tehsil nazim Sohail Yousafzai and other representatives of the local government.

The DPO said that firing in the air caused killings and driving of vehicles by underage drivers resulted in road incidents.

Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Yousafzai said that some people gave free hands to their children to drive cars and use motorcycles. “We should also play our role to create a peaceful society where the youth should only focus on their study and sport activities,” he said.

ACCIDENT: Two young Afghan refugees, who lived in Gandaf camp, were killed in a road accident here on Monday.

Police said that the victims were going on a motorcycle to Topi tehsil main market for purchasing edibles for their houses when a tractor-trolley coming from the opposition collided with their motorcycle near Pehur High Level Canal Gandaf Hydropower Station.

The deceased were identified as Maqbool Khan, 22, and Karim Khan, 24. The driver of the tractor-trolley managed to escape after the incident.
