Karachi's District Central Police and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) late on Wednesday night killed a 'Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) terrorist' but said two others managed to flee the scene during an operation in the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri area.

According to a police press release, the IB was tipped off regarding the presence of LeJ men "planning a major terror bid in the area." Upon receiving this information, the IB decided to conduct a joint operation along with the police.

As the terrorists saw the police approach their hideout, they "opened indiscriminate fire with the intention to kill. The security forces retaliated and ended up killing Saad Khan while two other LeJ terrorists — Ameer Molvi Younis and Dr Rehan — managed to flee the scene in the cover of the night.

The police recovered two hand grenades, six TT pistols, one 7mm rifle, one 'China rifle', seven 7mm magazines, three walkie talkie sets and 500 SMG bullets during the operation.

According to the press release, Khan was involved in various terrorist activities, including the 2009 killing of a police officer in the Ibrahim Haidri area, the 2012 killings of various policemen in Lyari and other terrorist activities between 2012 and 2015.

Sources within the IB said that Saad Khan had provided the suicide jacket used in the 2015 killing of the-then Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada.

On August 16, 2015 Khanzada had been killed in a suicide attack on his political office in Shadi Khan village, Attock along with 16 others. 23 others were injured in the attack.
