LAHORE: Rizwana Yasmeen was appointed captain of the 18-member Pakistan hockey team on Saturday for the Asian Women’s Challenge being held in Bandar Seri Begawan later this month.

The event will be staged in Brunei capital from Oct 22 to 29.

Rizwana was named captain after the national selection committee announced the squad following the two-day trials held at the National Hockey Stadium here on Saturday.

Ambreen Arshad was installed as vice-captain of the national side.

Besides Pakistan, teams from China, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Myanmar and hosts Brunei will feature in the tournament.

Seven standby players have also been named for the continental event.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey Federation president retired Brig Sajjad Khokhar hoped the women’s team would produce better results at the Asian Women’s Challenge.

Iqbal Joyan, Rimsha Ilyas, Nida Asghar, Fozia Naz, Sidra Hakim, Adeeba, Batool Kazim.
