This was stated by Pakistan’s country manager for International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), Dr Abdul Majid, at a quarterly meeting on the “Pakistan Water Dialogue: diffusion and adoption through partnerships and action of best watershed rehabilitation and irrigation practices”, the third phase project funded by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and ICARDA. It was held in the US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) on Tuesday.

He said this project aimed at increasing the capacity of rural farmers and would help adopt modern cost-effective and efficient irrigation practices and technologies like drip, sprinkler, raised-bed planting and pipe irrigation systems. He said 13 different technologies were being used on water component of the project in the third phase whereas effective work was being carried out on the soil component of the project.
