KOHAT: The government will mitigate on priority the sufferings of tribesmen who have been affected by militancy and fight against terrorism, said deputy commissioner Khalid Ilyas, who also holds the charge of political agent of Frontier Region, Kohat.

He restored the stipends of tribal maliks with immediate effect in recognition of their sacrifices.

Addressing a jirga at the District Council Hall on Thursday, he asked the maliks to remain in touch with the security forces to eliminate militancy.

He said that the government was utilising all available resources to resolve problems being faced by the tribal people.

Mr Ilyas warned that he would not tolerate ghost employees in any government department and would monitor the affairs of FR, Kohat. He urged them to resolve their petty issues at the local level.

Besides tribal elders former MNA Malik Baz Gul Afridi and assistant political agent Tariqullah also spoke on this occasion and assured the political agent of their cooperation.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed in road accidents and a bees attack here on Thursday.

A police statement said that a speeding car hit a boy (5) near Mohammadzai on Hangu Road. He was taken to a hospital by the driver, Niaz Badshah, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver was arrested and a case registered against him.

In another incident, one Ibraheem belonging to Orakzai Agency was killed when a motorcycle hit him near police training centre on Rawalpindi Road. Police arrested the driver, Mohammad Saqib, and registered a case against him.

In a separate incident, honeybees attacked and stung a young man in Miangan Colony while he was plucking a hive. He later died in a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the police recovered a big quantity of hashish in different operations on Thursday.

The Ustarzai police during checking on Orakzai Agency link road seized 10kg of hashish from toll box of a truck and arrested a tribesman Asmatullah. They also recovered three kilogrammes of hashish allegedly from Shahadat Ali and Altaf Hussain, residents of Kohat, at Marai.

The city police raided a house of one Muslim Khan in Hafizabad and allegedly confiscated 6kg hashish. The Tehsil Gate checkpost police arrested one Murad of Karak who was allegedly carrying 2.5kg of hashish, while one Talib Gul was arrested with one kilogramme of hashish. Cases have been registered against all the arrested persons.
