LAHORE: City traffic police on Saturday launched “Accident Victim Support Initiative” to create awareness among the public about the significance of traffic rules.

Another purpose of the initiative taken under the ‘Police Image Improvement Programme’ was to bring close the police and the public.

Addressing a meeting in this regard, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ejaz said under the programme, the city traffic police department had deployed road safety officers in each sector who would provide first aid to the victims of accidents and arrange blood for them if required.

Moreover, he said, the officials would also pay visit to those injured in road accidents in hospitals or at their homes to inquire after them. The officers would brief the injured about the importance of the traffic rules and present flowers, representing the traffic police department’s a goodwill gesture, the CTO said.

In case of fatal accidents, he said, the sector in charge and the DSP concerned would attend the funeral or last rites of the victims and console their family members.

Mr Ejaz said that the activities were being started to make aware the public of the ways to prevent deaths and injuries in road accidents. He said that before launching the programme, special training had been imparted to the RSOs by the Turkish experts, who were helping the people on the roads.

Mr Ejaz said ensuring the smooth traffic flow was the first priority of wardens, urging the public to extend help and support to them for the successful implementation of such initiatives.
