PPP Senator Sherry Rehman on Friday filed an adjournment motion in the Senate Secretariat seeking a discussion on irregularities worth Rs400 billion in projects initiated under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The motion states that the Auditor General of Pakistan has found "massive irregularities" in the Federal Government's road projects.
"What is most shocking is that these projects were initiated under CPEC," the motion says.
It further calls on the government to "initiate a full-fledged investigation to reveal a clearer picture of this serious issue."
The motion seeks that the affairs of the house be adjourned to discuss the issue "of public concern."

But, where is the solid proof? Such un-substantiated accusations only harm the progress. I am at a loss to imagine why always ruling party is blamed by the opposition for wrong doings not watching their own track records.

@M.Saeed the news item quotes "... the Audit General had found 'massive irregularitiues'...". Bigger question is: where is oversight on such grand financial affairs so that it does not so happen to begin with. That is where transparency comes in. After the fact discoveries are doubly damaging.

Here we go again another money swindling from the CPEC projects. When are we going to do anything right? These contracts were initiated under NS tenure. Sad, sad and very bad.

It is normal to expect irregularities in cost managements of mega project. CPEC is a game changer mega project and its enormous benefits are not hidden from the world, Therefore we must not get de tracked by such accusations from those who have no track record of honest dealings. Besides, Rs.400 billion is just 6.6% of the $56 billion present cost of CPEC.
