SIALKOT: The district administration of Sialkot has planned to establish Shehr-i-Khamoshan Model Graveyard on the outskirts of the city.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Farrukh Naveed told the newsmen here on Sunday that the administration had selected six acres of land near village Ludha for the graveyard. He said a four-member committee, led by Mayor Ch Tauheed Akhtar, has also been formed to ensure early execution of this project.
Mr Naveed said it would be a model graveyard having cold storage facility for the dead bodies, ambulances, Janazgah, transport facility for deceased person’s family, relatives and other persons and staff for looking after the graveyard. He added that such model cemeteries would also be established at Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur as well.
In Sialkot, the people are facing great difficulties for burial of their beloved ones due to unavailability of the places for the graves, especially in the thickly populated local graveyards.
There are four old big graveyards in Sialkot city, namely Imam Sahib Graveyard, Shah Channan Graveyard, Babul Shaheed Graveyard and Mai Sabira Graveyard, which are already full to capacity and they have no further space for further burial.
