HARIPUR: The convener had to adjourn the district council session here on Tuesday when rumpus erupted over a resolution for cancellation of an amendment in by-laws which requires the district nazim and naib nazim to seek vote of confidence even on the demand of a single member.

The district council met here with convener Agha Shabir Ahmed in the chair. When the house proceedings started opposition leader Hamid Shah from PML-N raised objections over not sharing agenda of the council’s sitting and holding the session at the time of Zuhr prayers.

The convener, however, had to suspend the proceedings which resumed after Zuhr prayers. Treasury member of PTI Rashid Zaman from union council Pind Kamal Khan presented a resolution in order to rescind the amendment in the by-laws of 2015 that the district council had adopted with majority vote during its previous session of Oct 3, 2017.

According the amendment that was presented by Malik Dad, a PM-N member from union council Rehana, the naib nazim was empowered to call the council’s session, which was previously prerogative of the district nazim alone. Through this amendment, the house had also made the nazim bound to seek vote of confidence even if a single member would ask him through a point of order, motion or resolution to do so. The convener prorogued the session amid uproar.

POLICE DESK: District police officer Shahzad Nadeem inaugurated the district’s first police access service (PAS) desk in Khalabat Township police station here on Tuesday.

Addressing the participants at the inaugural ceremony, he said that the facility of PAS desk consisted of a room with comfortable seating for the applicants. He said that qualified police personnel, including female staff, would be available to ensure quick redressal of complaints. He said that this model would be replicated across the district.
