RAHIM YAR KHAN: An arm of a textile mill worker was amputated on Monday two days after it was stuck in a sizing machine, the worker’s brother told the media on Wednesday.

Anwaar told journalists his brother, Babar, 25, a resident of Basti Noornagar Sanghian Tajgarh, was working at Navena Textile Mills on Shahbazpur Road. On Friday night, he was operating the sizing machine when his arm got stuck in it.

The mill administration immediately called Rescue 1122 that shifted him to Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital. But the emergency doctors there did not treat Babar properly and discharged him after two days.

Anwaar further claimed that the mills administration later shifted Babar to a private hospital where an orthopaedic surgeon amputated his left arm on Monday. He alleged that there were no proper safety and security arrangements at the textile unit due to which his brother had lost his arm.

Administration and human resources in-charge of the mill, Zeeshan Mairaj, told Dawn that they adopted high-level security and safety measures at the unit, and immediately shifted Babar to Shaikh Zayed Hospital where three senior doctors performed an initial surgery on him.

He said he personally looked after Babar for two days at the hospital after which blood circulation in his arm stopped and they shifted him to a private hospital where Dr Shahid Riaz amputated his arm.

Mairaj claimed that Navena administration was bearing all expenses of Babar’s treatment and will provide job to his two brothers at the mill.
