LAHORE, Aug 24: The LFO cannot be made a part of the Constituton unless it is endorsed by parliament with a two-thirds majority, says Pakistan Awami Tehrik chairman and MNA Tahirul Qadri.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday after his return from abroad, he said Gen Pervez Musharraf was an unconstitutional president unless and until he was elected to the office by parliament.

Advising Gen Musharraf not to keep two office simultaneously, he said it would not be better for the future of democracy. He asked him that he (Musharraf) had been advocating for devolution of powers and he should implement the same decision on himself.

He asserted that all steps taken by the army government before October, 2002, elections, including the referendum, needed parliament’s endorsement.

Claiming to be neutral in the ‘fight’ between the government and the opposition, he urged both the parties to struggle for flourishing democracy. He said he had voted for Jamali only to support the system. But, he said, he had no high hopes that the system would work. —Staff Reporter
