KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh said on Friday that judges of the subordinate judiciary faced hardships, including workload, and women judges often sought transfer from the provincial metropolis.
Speaking to lawyers after laying the foundation stone of a new building to house courtrooms, record room and bar room at the City Courts, the chief justice stated that several judges of the lower courts, particularly women judicial officers, asked for their transfer from the city to the interior parts of the province or opted to resign as they faced problems in performing their professional duties.
Besides being overburdened, the judges of subordinate courts were also working in a very tough condition, the chief justice said and added that the problems were being resolved with the coordination of judges and lawyers.
Members of the legal fraternity complained about the newly-inducted judicial officers while judges also had grievances regarding lawyers’ behaviour, he said. The chief justice announced that two rooms would be provided to lawyers at ATCs complex in the central prison and one at the court for control of narcotic substances after the lawyers complained that they had no sitting place in those courts.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi of the SHC and Karachi Bar Association president Naeem Qureshi also spoke.
