NAROWAL: A coach of the 10-Down Allama Iqbal Express got derailed about half-a-kilometer away from here because of loosening of track bolts on Monday.

Station Master Muhammad Saeed told Dawn that the accident occurred when the Karachi-bound passenger train originating from Sialkot reached near Lahore phatak (crossing), about half-a-kilometer from local railway station.

He said the accident was caused by loosening of the bolts which joined the tracks.

It took the railway staff five hours to repair the track after which the train was allowed to continue its journey.

Mr Saeed said no casualty was reported because of the derailment of the coach.

According to witnesses, the train was saved from a major disaster because of timely application of brakes by the driver.
