KOHAT: By-elections on 16 vacant seats of village councils here will be held on December 21.

According to the schedule announced by the district election commission, nomination papers will be filed on Nov 13 and 14, scrutiny will be held on Nov 16 and 17, election symbols allotted on Nov 17 and the polls will be held on Dec 21, 2017.

District election commissioner Shahabuddin and additional assistant commissioner Iqrar Ali have been appointed returning officers for the elections. The by-polls will be held on the 16 vacant seats of village councils Garhi Banoorian, Charbagh, Tappi, Kaghazai, Khadizai, Jabbi, Rehmanabad, Mandoori, Khushalgarh, Nakband, Shaweki, Bazidkhel, Jabbar, Ziarat Sheikh Allahdad, Shadipur and Mohsinkhel.

HOLIDAY: Deputy commissioner Ilyas Khalid has announced local holiday in Kohat on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain on Friday (tomorrow).

A handout issued here on Wednesday said that all schools and government and private offices would remain closed. The bazaars would also be closed due to security measures.

According to another handout, the district administration has imposed Section 144 till Nov 22 under which standing on rooftop, display of weapons, hate speech, pillion riding, wall-chalking and gathering of five or more people have been banned.

CLEANLINESS: The residents of Khattak Colony here have appealed to the tehsil municipal administration to remove garbage dumps accumulated in the area’s graveyard, which produced bad smell and created hardships during burials.

One Shahid Khan lamented that the TMA and the Water Supply and Sanitation Company work only in those areas where rich people lived. He said that garbage should also be collected from the outskirts of the city on daily basis or at least dustbins should be placed there.
