KARACHI: Engr Zain-ul-Abedin shone as Arambagh Club thumped newly formed Rayden Hawks 31-19 on the opening day of the 12th National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Cup basketball tournament which commenced at Arambagh floodlit court on Saturday evening.

The winners won the first quarter convincingly 13-6 but relaxed in the following three and could not muster enough score.They won the second 8-4 to lead 21-10 at half time.

On resumption, they trailed the third quarter 4-5 and rounded off by winning the fourth and last quarter 6-4.

Zain was the only player who found his way to emerge top scorer with 17. He was assisted by Raj Kumar seven.

Raheel scored eight points and was followed by Kashif five and Sanaullah four the losers.

In the opening fixture, the trio of Anus, Saime and Adnan steered Askari Alphas to an emphatic 60-15 victory over Munawwar Abbasi Club.

Anus amassed 14 while Saime and Adnan returned with a tally of 12 points apiece as winners led 32-4. Usman scored five while Moayed and Haris four each for the losers.

In the third match of the day, One Unit Club sent Karachi Colts packing 48-29. The winners enjoyed 22-14 lead at half time.

Salar and Danish shared 24 points amongst themselves while Talal contributed 11 for winners.

Tehamy (8), Zain and Safeer seven apiece, were the scorers for the losers.

A: Bounce Club, Neighbourhood Club, One Unit Club and Karachi Colts.

B: Nishtar Club, Arambagh Club, Askari Alphas, Munawwar Abbasi Club and Rayden Hawks.
