PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that the universities should focus on provision of quality education and promoting research among the students for development of the society.

He was addressing a national conference on ‘emerging trends in computing, statistics and mathematical sciences’ held at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU), Peshawar, on Tuesday, according to a handout.

The two-day conference was attended by SBBWU vice-chancellor Prof Razia Sultana, Prof Suleman Mazhar, Prof Sirajul Islam, Prof Tasawar, faculty members, and researchers and scholars from all over the country.

The governor said that SBBWU had been playing an important role in the provision of standard and higher education besides promoting research.

He said that universities were the fountainhead of knowledge and played an important role in the development of nations. He appreciated the women’s university for organising the national conference.

He also lauded the university’s administration for providing opportunities of higher education facilities to the students from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Earlier, Prof Razia Sultana highlighted the aims and objectives of the conference.
