An Afghan soldier, who crossed over into Pakistan around a month ago, was released and handed over to Afghan security personnel on Wednesday.

Zabihullah was arrested when he crossed Kharlachi border in Kurram Agency. He was handed over to Afghan officials at Torkham border, as a "goodwill gesture", DawnNews reported.

Frontier Constabulary Commandant Colonel Farukh Hamayun and Afghan official Colonel Nisar were present on the occasion.

The two neighbouring countries have recently been embroiled in intensifying border management disputes.

Pakistan on Tuesday summoned the Afghan chargé d'affaires to protest one of many incidents of attacks on Pakistani posts from the Afghan side of the border.
