LAHORE: The rulers will have to face consequences of patronising the elements who recently attempted to alter the laws relating to the Khatm-i-Nubuwwat, says Jamaat-i-Islami emir Senator Sirajul Haq.

Addressing the JI central leadership at Mansoora on Wednesday, he said the people who tried to drop the the part of legislators’ oath concerning the finality of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) could not be spared.

He demanded the government to make public the report of the official committee on the issue and hand down a deterrent punishment to the culprit(s). Mr Haq welcomed the Islamabad High Court decision restoring the previous provisions of the law.

He slated the US demand for quashing the laws related to the finality the prophet hood and termed it a blatant and uncalled for interference in the country’s internal affairs. He stressed upon the government to lodge protest to Washington in this regard.

The meeting discussed the political situation obtaining in the country and also the prospective candidates of the JI for the coming elections.

Haq made it clear that the JI would not rest unless the corrupt rulers were brought to accountability and their illegal wealth within the country and abroad was recovered.

The JI chief said the 2018 elections would be the last chance for the masses to get rid of the corrupt rulers and they should not repeat their past mistakes of electing the politicians who had been tested many a time.
