RAWALPINDI: The traffic police have chalked out an alternative traffic route as Peshawar Road will remain closed on Saturday due to a mourning procession in memory of Imam Hasan.

The roads will be sealed from 7am until the end of the procession.

Chief Traffic Officer Yousuf Ali Shahid said about 149 traffic police officials, including three deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), eight inspectors, 127 wardens and 11 junior wardens will be deployed to maintain a smooth flow of traffic during the procession.

“The traffic will not be allowed to proceed from Chairing Cross Peshawar Road towards Chur Chowk,” he said.

The traffic from Misryal Road will be diverted towards Range Road, Shahlay Valley and Qasim Market. From Mehrabad flyover, traffic will be diverted to I.J. Principal Road, Dhoke Hassu Road, Bakery Chowk and Transit Camp and directed towards Saddar.

The CTO said the traffic from Qasim Market via Transit Camp, Bakery Chowk, Dhoke Hassu will proceed to I.J. Principal Road.

Furthermore, traffic from Qasim Market to Range Road, Shahlay Valley and Misryal Road will proceed towards Bhatta Chowk Golra Mor.

Residents of the twin cities have already been facing hardships due to the blockade of Faizabad Intersection by activists of a religious party since the past 11 days.
