SAHIWAL: The Divisional Development Committee approved on Monday Rs220 million schemes.

Of the sum, Rs69.7 will be spent on the Chichawattni Tehsil Headquarters Hospital’s extension which includes the construction of three new wards.

Development Director Ghulam Jilani Vains said Rs150 million would be allocated to provide sewerage pipelines and potable water to 13 union councils.

Also, the Punjab Sports Board approved 12 sports schemes for Sahiwal division.

Up to Rs730 million would be spent on these sports development schemes to be completed by March 31, 2018. Akbar Murad, divisional sports officer, told reporters Rs74.03 million would be spent on developing a modern cricket stadium at the Government Post Graduate College of Sahiwal. College’s Oval ground will get floodlights and other facilities.

Also, the Gymkhana Club will be developed.

He said Rs28.4 million, Rs77.04 million, Rs68.2 million, Rs41 million and Rs24.1 million would be spent on the establishment of Chichawatni Kabadi Stadium, a cricket stadium in village 39/14-L, a football stadium at the Government Higher Secondary School in 103/7R, reconstruction of Gymkhana Cricket Club, Municipal Stadium of Okara and installing of flood lights in football ground of Okara.

It is learnt Rs134 million, Rs74.3 million, Rs37.7 million and Rs72.2 million have been allocated for a sports gymnasium in Basirpur, a cricket ground with floodlights in Renala Khurd, a sports stadium for Gogera, a hockey stadium at Nanakpur.

Mr Muraid said a steering committee had been formed to monitor the sports schemes.
