PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the massive traffic jams on link roads due to initiation of work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) the traders and police have agreed to divert vehicular traffic in order to minimise miseries of the public in the provincial metropolis.

In this regard, a meeting of traffic police officials and office-bearers of different bodies of traders was held here on Tuesday wherein the traffic situation was reviewed, according to a statement.

Representing the traders, Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran president Malik Mehr Ilahi pinpointed the problems caused by initiation of work on BRT.

It was decided that the Sikandarpura Bazaar would be used as one-way while heavy traffic on Namak Mandi Road would not be allowed after midday. The goods consignments could be transported only through pickup vans.

Similarly, traffic wardens would be posted at the busy spots, including old Sabzi Mandi, Chowk Nasir Khan, Firdus Chowk, and surrounding areas as per the new traffic plan to regulate the traffic and minimise problems of the citizens.

The police officials stressed the need that traders should extend full cooperation against the encroachers, especially on the alternate, link roads, to facilitate the commuters, particularly during peak hours.
