KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the governor, acting vice-chancellor of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL) and others to file their respective comments on a constitutional petition against the appointment of Advocate Qazi Khalid as acting VC of the law university.
The petition was filed by Advocate Qadir Khan Mandokhel, who also impleaded the secretary to the chief minister on universities and the registrar of SZABUL as respondents.
After the preliminary hearing, a two-judge bench issued notices to the respondents and put off the matter to Dec 7.
The petitioner told the judges that he and other candidates applied for the post following an advertisement in the press on March 3.
However, he said, Advocate Khalid was appointed as VC in violation of rules and regulations. He claimed that Advocate Qazi Khalid was not eligible to be appointed as VC because he was over 65 years of age, while the maximum age for the incumbent was 60 years under Section 36 (2) of the University Act.
The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the search committee to select the VC after scrutiny.
