LAHORE: It was not the Accountant General of Pakistan but Additional Accountant General of Pakistan who had attended a meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Secretary earlier this month on the issue of audit of public sector companies in the province, says a spokesperson of the department.

Dawn had reported proceedings of the meeting on the basis of its minutes which had mentioned one of the participants as Syed Karamat Hussain Bukhari, Acting Auditor General of Pakistan. The spokesperson said he was actually the additional auditor general.

Meanwhile, explaining on behalf of the AGP, the spokesperson on Tuesday said that field audit offices of the AGP were regularly conducting audit of various companies established by the Government of Punjab registered under the Companies Ordinance.

“Only few remaining companies have been approached to get their audit conducted by the Director General Commercial Audit and Evaluation (North), Lahore, and Director General Audit District Governments (North) and (South). Office of the AGP is making all out possible efforts through field audit offices to carry out their audit as per rules and regulations in an objective and professional manner,” the spokesperson added.
