LAHORE: An exhibition of artworks titled Husn-e-Zan opened here on Wednesday at Oyster Art Gallery [Gulberg] that featured female figures originating from beauty and demeanour.

The event was inaugurated by University of Punjab College of Art and Design Principal Shahida Manzoor.

Some 28 or so artists from all over Pakistan, mostly from major cities, put on display their figurative artworks highlighting the delicacy, beauty, style and subtlety about women. Figurative painting is a centuries old passion and art. Men who used to live in caves would sketch their goddesses and make sculptures. This tradition was rather more strong in the Greeks as they had sketched women in a detailed and tranquil manner.

The well-attended exhibition showcased a variety of paintings carrying female figurative art depicting different moods and tenderness of the fairer sex. The artists had applied different mediums to their artworks such as acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas, pencil tones, bright colours, sepia tones, pen on paper, knife work and water on paper.

A number of artists, including Hussian Chandio, Ahmed Anwar, A S Rind, Asim Amjad, Semera Jawad, Tassaduq Sohail, S A Noory, had put on display their works.

Dr Shahida Manzoor appreciated the artists, saying that it was a colourful show that focused on figurative art and displayed immense variety and colour.
