ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has requested the game’s world governing body to award the hosting rights of the World Junior Squash Championship 2020 to the country, an official disclosed on Monday.
“We [through a letter] have asked the World Squash Federation (WSF) to allot the World Junior Squash Championship 2020 to Pakistan. We are more than hopeful that we will be awarded the mega event,” PSF vice-president and squash legend Qamar Zaman said while talking to APP.
“The WSF president has assured me that more events will be given to Pakistan, to be hosted in Karachi and Lahore,” Qamar added.
Speaking about the recently-held WSF meeting in France, Qamar said, “I and PSF senior vice-president Air Vice Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi represented Pakistan at the meeting during which several issues regarding the game were discussed.”
The meeting also deliberated upon including squash in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games to which all the members agreed, the official revealed.
Qamar said the PSF was committed to promoting the sport in the country.
“Federation’s president Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman is making all-out efforts for developing the game of squash in the country and [in this regard] is providing all facilities to the players,” Qamar said.
