Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani on Saturday said that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq simply said what he felt in his heart when he remarked that the incumbent government may not be able to complete its tenure.

"Ayaz Sadiq only said what he sensed was true," Durrani said while talking to the the media after visiting Darhyan in Sukkur.

The speaker also went after Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, asking, "How can a country's government function when its own prime minister does not consider himself the prime minister?"

Sadiq on Wednesday had said that continuity of democratic system was pivotal for strengthening institutions in the country, but expressed fear that he "does not see the [incumbent] assembly completing its tenure"

During an interview to a private television channel, Sadiq had said “What’s happening now has never been witnessed before,” adding that everyone should give preference to national interests instead of focusing on personal benefits.

The NA speaker, however, had dismissed any possibility of a martial law being imposed on the country, saying the current situation was "worse than the Musharraf regime but there is no chance of martial law".

He had added that all political parties except one wanted the government to complete its five-year constitutional term for the continuity of the democratic system.
