SUKKUR: Doctors, paramedics and non-medical staff went on strike in all government hospitals in Sukkur and Rohri towns on Monday in protest against detention of medical superintendent of a government hospital by police at the behest of Sukkur deputy commissioner a day ago.
The protesting doctors who led a rally and held a sit-in in front of local press club after closing the hospitals demanded DC Raheem Bux Mailto offer an unconditional apology or he be transferred immediately.
Dr Iqbal Ahmed Siddiqui, MS of Government Anwar Piracha Hospital, told journalists that the DC had verbally asked him on Saturday to spare two doctors for polio vaccination drive.
When he demanded a written request the officer flew into a rage, used harsh language against him and had his police squad haul him off like a criminal to his office and then to the SSP office, he said, adding the SSP let him go only after strong protest by his colleagues.
He said the attitude and the words used by the DC were highly condemnable. He was filing a petition in court to seek justice, he added.
