DADU, May 4: Following heavy rainfall in the Khirthar range, water flow in the Nai Gaaj has increased and its level rose to seven feet on Wednesday morning. This has also led to a rise in the water level of the Manchhar Lake. Link roads of Chhinni, Wahi Pandhi, Gorakh hill station, Hero Khan, Tando Rahim, Drigh Bala, Wawaro and Tore have been submerged by rainwater.

Villagers are facing difficulties to bring essential items for their families because over 100 villages are cut off from main towns.

Johi Taluka Nazim Datar Khan Jamali told Dawn that after heavy rain on Tuesday night which continued till Wednesday morning, water flow in the Nai Gaaj increased.

He said people of the Kachho area were coming to Johi by foot because the transport system had been badly affected.

He demanded that provincial and district governments should adopt relief measures in the villages.

Flood protective bund assistant engineer Habibullah Kabooro also confirmed that water flow in the Nai Gaaj was seven feet on Wednesday morning which had also increased the water level of Manchhar.

He said the water level at the lake was 109.7RL. He said the water level of the lake could increase by another 2.05 feet because water was flowing into the lake from the Nai Gaaj.
