BAHAWALPUR: Swine flue claimed another life on Thursday night at isolation ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital raising the total death to three.Emergencies Director Dr Aamir Bokhari confirmed to Dawn that Zubaida Rehmat, 62, of Sajid Awan Town was the latest victim of swine flu.
He said she was admitted to BVH some three days ago and the result of her blood samples was received on Thursday morning.
He said the BVH isolation ward had a total of 15 suspected swine flu patients. Of them three had expired while one Shazia was discharged after recovery on Thursday. Presently, he said, there was no suspected patient in the isolation ward as all others had also been discharged after recovery.
Meanwhile, the district health department has issued a red alert in respect of the outbreak of swine flu in the district.
According to District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr.Fayyaz Anwar, the red alert was necessitated due to the prevailing health and environment situation across the district.
UNIFORM ISSUE: Students of the Government Sadiq Egerton College demonstrated at Islamia University’s Old Campus Chowk on Thursday against the college administration.
The demonstration was staged when majority of the students without uniform was stopped from entering the college by the teachers deployed at the gates to check their uniform. According to the college administration, the students were asked some two months ago to come in uniform, but they failed to comply with the orders.
However, the teachers allowed them to enter the college when they [students] gave an assurance that they would attend their classes in uniform in future.
EDUCATION: The Bahawalpur district has been ranked fifth in the province and tenth among the total 155 districts of Pakistan in respect of education standard and progress .
According to chief executive officer (CEO) Maqbool Ahmed of the District Education Authority, in the light of a survey by an NGO, the district’s education standard stood at 70.8pc while the return of the school children was 50.82pc.
