GWADAR: The University of Turbat has launched Taj Muhammad and Mir Elahi Bakhsh Rind Scholarships for underprivileged and talented students to enable them to pursue higher studies at the university.

Dr Shabbir, a businessman and social worker, donated Rs3 million for the endowment fund for starting the scholarships to promote higher education in the region.

Jadain Dashti, a lawyer belonging to Turbat, had donated Rs1m for the Karim Dashti Scholarship two months ago.

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarship, under the supervision of the director of QEC Prof Dr Gul Hassan, launched a fundraising campaign for the deserving and talented students of Turbat University.

According to Dr Hassan, many philanthropists, donors and social welfare organisations were approaching the university administration with a commitment to contribute to the student endowment fund to promote higher learning in far-flung areas of the country.

Meanwhile, a ceremony was held at the main campus where Dr Gul Hassan and Dr Shabbir signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to regularise the two scholarships.
