TIMERGARA: The selection board of the University of Malakand on Wednesday approved candidates for appointment on 30 vacant posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors in various departments.

The selection board meeting was chaired by vice chancellor Prof Gul Zaman, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.

A total of 86 candidates appeared for selection while two candidates from abroad were interviewed on Skype for the first time.

One post of professor, six of associate professors and 15 of assistant professors were lying vacant at the varsity.

STONE CRUSHERS PROTEST: The owners of stone crushing plants along with local government representatives took out a protest rally against the Lower Dir administration at Samarbagh for sealing in the units.

The protesters also blocked the Samarbagh road for some time and chanted slogans against the assistant commissioner for not holding talks with them.

Later, speaking at a news conference, the councillors alleged the government wanted to impose tax on the units, and demanded of the government to lift the ban within a week, or face more protests.

Meanwhile, Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram on Wednesday made it clear his administration won’t bow to any pressure to lift ban on crushing plants in the district which had been sealed on the directives of the apex court and the provincial authorities.

Talking to reporters, he said almost all stone crushing plants in the district had no NOC due to which they were sealed.

He said the owners of the units with the support of some politicians were politicising the issue. He said the administration won’t permit crushing plants within the one kilometre radius of human population.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: Vice Chancellor University of Malakand Dr Gul Zaman on Wednesday inaugurated the inter-university football championship, 2018, sponsored by the Higher Education Commission at the varsity’s sports ground.

The VC interacted with students of varies universities on the occasion and termed the event healthy and productive.

Football teams from seven universities from Malakand, Swat, Kohat, DI Khan, Sharingal Upper Dir, Bannu and Haripur are taking part in the event.
