KARACHI: Outsiders Harris Qasim and Shahab Khan were among 11 outsiders — 10 boys and one girl — who hogged limelight while getting the better of seeded players to sneak into the second round of the seventh Rehana Nazar National Junior Squash Championship in Tando Allahyar, on Sunday

Haris shocked top seed Uzair Shaukat 11-7, 11-3, 14-12 whereas Shahab removed second seed Farhan Hashmi 13-11, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11. They were joined by qualifier Khushal Riaz in the boys under-17 second round after he sent seventh seed Ahmed Hassan packing 11-9, 11-3, 11-5.

Qualifier Shehzad Khan stunned sixth seed Zeeshan Malik 11-6, 7-11, 11-4, 11-8 in the only boys under-19 upset to propel into the next round.

Qualifiers Syed Hasnain, Junaid Khan (under-15), Kaleemullah (under-13), Varun Asif, M. Shoiab Afzal and unseeded M. Hanif (under-11) routed seeded opponents on way to making next round.

In an all-Sindh encounter, unseeded Mehwish carved out 11-5, 11-1, 11-3 victory over Alishba Ibad to cruise into the girls under-15 second round.

Top six seeds — Komal Khan, Noor-ul-Huda, Aiman Shahbaz, Amna Fayyaz, Kainat Khan and Noor-ul-Ain Ejaz — have got first round bye in the girls under-19 category.
