TIMERGARA: Lower Dir district election commissioner Noor Said Khan Khattak on Monday said that 211 display centres for registration of voters had been established across the district while door-to-door verification of votes would continue till Feb 8.

Talking to mediapersons after kicking off door-to-door voters’ verification drive in the district, he said 712 enumerators, 20 supervisors and 14 assistant registration officers had been assigned the task to verify registered voters during the campaign.

He said that after Feb 8 the process of objection to, deletion and correction of voters would be started. The official said citizens could register themselves and transfer vote from one place to another at the 211 display centres across the district.

The district election commissioner asked people to take active part in the campaign and cooperate with the ECP staff.

NEW BLOCKS OPEN AT VARSITY: Vice chancellor, University of Malakand, Prof Gul Zaman on Monday inaugurated the administration and admission blocks at the varsity.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the institution was committed to providing quality education to students.

VC SECRETARIES SEEK UPGRADATION: The Lower Dir village council secretaries on Monday reorganised their association and elected the fresh cabinet to actively take part in the movement to seek their upgradation.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by vice-president of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa village council secretaries Salahuddin Khan.

The meeting through secret ballot elected Atta ur Rahman president, Jehangir Khan general secretary, Murad Badshah finance secretary and Rohullah press secretary, respectively.

On the occasion, Mr Rahman rejected the proposed three-tier formula for upgradation of village council secretaries and demanded of the chief minister to honour his announcement regarding VC secretaries upgradation to the scale 14.

ROAD PROJECT: JI lawmaker Izazul Mulk Afkari on Monday inaugurated Darra-Shal Kandi road to be completed with a cost of Rs25 million. A function in this regard was held at Shal Kandi. The MPA said so far Rs217 million had been spent on development projects in his PK-95 constituency.
