SWABI: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak would inaugurate work on construction of Bada Dam during his visit to the district on January 27, said PTI local leaders.

The dam will be built in Bada village of Gadoon Amazai mountainous region. It will be constructed between two mountains.

Sources said that survey of the project was conducted during the previous ANP government but work on the dam could not be initiated owing to unknown reasons.

However, the ANP government had sanctioned funds for construction of Kundal Dam.

Senator Sitara Ayaz, who was a minister in the ANP government, when contacted, said that all requirements of Kundal Dam were completed by their government. She recalled that the idea of Kundal Dam was first presented in 1969. Anwar Haqdad, district president of PTI, said that Bada Dam would serve both irrigation and power production purposes. He said that PTI didn’t claim credit for the projects completed by other parties.

The chief minister will also inaugurate Topi tehsil building, which has been completed at cost of Rs275 million. The construction of tehsil building was started by the ANP government. Topi got status of tehsil in August 2005 during the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal government in the province.

The chief minister will also address a gathering in Maini village. He is expected to announce development project for the area.

Local people said that construction of three small dams in Gadoon Amazai belt would resolve their various problems.
