JHANG: A number of villagers of Chak 181, Khichianawla, staged a demonstration at Gojra Mor on Jhang-Faisalabad road on Tuesday against Mochiwala police for not registering a murder case.

Zahoor Ahmad and Noor Ahmad said their brother, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, went to Chak 183, Baloana, on Monday night to attend a religious ceremony. They alleged the host family had killed their brother, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, over a grudge due to old enmity but the police were not registering the case.

Shafiqur Rehman, the spokesman for Jhang police, said on receiving the information, the police reached the site and started legal proceedings but the deceased’s brothers, through an affidavit, said their brother died accidentally and that they did not want any legal proceedings.

The protesters ended the protest on the assurance by Deputy Superintendent of Police Saifullah Bhatti that the family would be provided the justice.

ARRESTED: Police arrested three people on the charges of scuffling with a lawyer and his clerks and injuring them at the district courts.

Ghazanfar Abbas, Shair Shah, Sakhi Habib and others, all residents of Adda Gulgasht of tehsil Shorkot, visited district courts in connection with a land dispute case. Outside the court of Civil Judge Sarfraz Khan, harsh words were exchanged between Ghazanfar and a lawyer Ilyas Haider which led to a fight. The lawyer and his clerks received injuries in the scuffle. A large number of lawyers gathered there and gave a thrashing to those fighting with their colleague.

The police took the men from Shorkot in custody and shifted them to the police station.

Later, after obtaining a medico-legal certificate, Ilyas Haider submitted the application with Kotwali Police Station for registration of a case.
