MANSEHRA: The Mansehra tehsil council on Friday unanimously approved the Rs47 million annual development programme weeks after the installation of the PTI-led local government.

“We have going all-out to put our 2005 earthquake-hit tehsil on the way to prosperity and development and the sanction of this ADP with a large majority shows our strong commitment to it,” tehsil nazim Ibrahim Shah told the house, which met with convener Liaquat Khassana in the chair.

The council also approved a resolution seeking the appointment of 6,000 local residents to 840 megawatts Suki Kanari hydropower project being executed in Kaghan valley as part of the multibillion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative.

Members threaten to agitate if top KDA post not given to local resident

It demanded of the provincial government to remove Khurram Hanif Khan as the chairman of the Kaghan Development Authority’s governing body and appoint a local resident in his place.

“We won’t allow an outsider to control our resources. If the government doesn’t replace him with a local resident, we will agitate,” he said.

The nazim said every councillor would get Rs2.2 million for the development of the respective union council.

“For the first time, every councillor is being given the equal development funds without discrimination,” he said.

Also in the day, district councillor from Kaghan union council Akhtar Shah rejected the appointment of former tehsil nazim, Mansehra, Khurram Hanif Khan as the chairman of the KDA and said a local resident should be appointed in his place.

BOOKED: The Mansehra police on Friday registered cases against four bank managers for not complying with the National Action Plan here.

District police officer Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari paid surprise visit to banks and jewellery shops and ordered the police to lodge cases against the managers of four banks over lack of appropriate security measures on and outside their premises.

Mr Bukhari also warned many jewellers of action over lack of appropriate security measures on the premises.
