SWABI: The Syndicate of Women University Swabi (WUS) sanctioned on Wednesday a budget of Rs347 million for the year 2017-18, varsity officials told Dawn.

The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Khanzadi Fatima Khattak.

The syndicate approved the recommendations of various forums of the university like academic council, affiliation committee and finance and planning committee.

The participants noted that without girls education it was difficult for the government to achieve the desired objectives in diverse fields, and the establishment of the women university in the district was good omen for the girls.

The vice chancellor said that the academia of the university were committed to empowering girls through quality higher education, and involving them in the result-oriented research activities and innovations.

She said the university would take all possible steps to provide state of the art facilities to students and scholars to conduct their research in a peaceful and working environment.

Later, the members visited the construction site of the university at Kotha and appreciated the speedy construction of the campus.

Laiq Khan, president of Anjuman-i-Dokandaran, speaking at a meeting of the business community said that they confronted excessive power loadshedding even in winter.

CM VISIT PUT OFF: A scheduled visit of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to Swabi has been postponed, PTI district president Anwar Haqdad said.

He said the chief minister was scheduled to visit the district on Saturday but due to pressing engagements his visit was rescheduled, and now he was expected to visit the district to inaugurate the Bada Dam in the first week of the next month.
