MARDAN: A delegation of the Senate functional committee on human rights on Thursday met the family members of a four-year-old girl, who was recently killed here allegedly after being sexually assaulted.

Senators Nasreen Jalil, Shahi Syed and Nisar Khan also visited the relevant administration officials for update on the case.

The delegates met the girl’s father and family members, offered Fateha for her and expressed sympathy and solidarity with them.

The girl’s father expressed satisfaction with the police probe into the incident.

The senators regretted that the Punjab forensic laboratory had delayed the dispatch of the results of DNA test of the samples taken from the girl’s body.

They said the laboratory should send the test results without delay to ensure the speedy police probe.

Senator Nasreen said it would be premature to say if the girl was assaulted.

The visitors regretted the nonexistence of a forensic laboratory in the province and asked the provincial government to establish it without delay.

Deputy commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said the administration had begun a crackdown on pornographic materials in the district and achieved targets.

He urged the federal government to take effective steps to check block pornographic stuff on the internet for the welfare of youths. Senator Shahi Syed said the committee members would raise the issue in the house to push the government for action.
