MINGORA: An anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a man who desecrated the Holy Quran.

The man identified as Mohammad Amin, a resident of Chitral district, was arrested by Chitral police on May 2, 2017 for desecrating the Holy Quran. Police had registered an FIR against him under the anti-terrorism law. On Wednesday, Malakand division ATC judge Mohammad Arif, after completing the hearing in the case, awarded one-time life imprisonment and second time three years imprisonment along with Rs300,000 fine to the offender.

Meanwhile, Swat deputy commissioner Amer Afaq asked the departments concerned here in a meeting to play their due role in the anti-polio campaign starting from February 12 in the district.

The meeting held at the DC office was attended by the assistant commissioners of all the seven tehsils, district health officer Dr Ghulam Subhani and officials of the health, education and police departments. Mr Afaq directed the polio staff to reach every child under five years age. Health officials in the meeting said that a total of 481,410 children would be inoculated across the district.
