ISLAMABAD: Justice Athar Minallah of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday reserved verdict on a petition seeking the recovery of an IT expert.

Sajid Mehmood was allegedly abducted from his house at F-10 in front of his family and neighbours on March 14, 2016.

His wife Mahera Mehmood filed the habeas corpus petition seeking the recovery of his husband in Aug 2016. She requested the court to declare the federal government responsible for the disappearance of her husband since it was the negligence of the government that led to the enforced disappearance of her husband.

She also requested the court to direct the government to compensate her to meet her day-to-day expenses.

In her application seeking maintenance from the government, Ms Mehmood said the monthly expenses of the dependents of the “missing person” in terms of children’s education, domestic help, utility bills, property tax, food, milk, internet and petrol reached over Rs100,000.

She requested the court to direct the secretary interior to provide the petitioner and her daughters maintenance amounting to not less than Rs117,500 per month and starting from March 14, 2016, when her husband was allegedly ‘abducted.’

Earlier, the Islamabad police in a report submitted a report stated that Mr Mehmood appeared to be a victim of enforced disappearance.

Superintendent of Police retired Captain Ilyas submitted before the court that the evidence in the case did not point to any other direction and the case fell in the category of enforced disappearance.
