RAWALPINDI: Romanian Ambassador Nicolaie Goia said on Thursday that there was a lot of room to promote trade between Romania and Pakistan.

“Romania has vast business opportunities and Pakistani businessmen should come forward and avail these opportunities,” he stated this during his visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber and Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

RCCI President Zahid Latif Khan, Senior Vice President Nasir Mirza, Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, executive committee members and traders from the Potohar Region attended the meeting.

Mr Goia said that bilateral ties between Pakistan and Romania could be strengthened by intensifying people-to-people contact. He also expressed the hope that current volume of bilateral trade could be increased from $100 million to $500 million.

He said Romanian investors were keen to step in joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts and the exchange of delegations between Romania and Pakistan could help boost bilateral trade.

The envoy suggested that pharmaceuticals, machinery, tourism and agriculture would serve as promising sectors for boosting bilateral trade. He also lauded the RCCI efforts in promoting trade activities in the region.

RCCI President Zahid Latif Khan said at the meeting that Romania has been the fastest growing economy of the European Union with a growth rate of 5.7pc.
