RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to another seven ‘hardcore terrorists’.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), these terrorists were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, including killing of innocent civilians and attacks on law enforcement agencies and the armed forces. They have killed 85 people and injured 109 others. Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession.

The terrorists were tried and convicted by military courts. Besides, five convicts were awarded imprisonment of various durations.

According to the ISPR, convicts Atlas Khan, son of Mada Mir Jan, and Muhammad Yousaf Khan, son of Mir Azam Khan, were members of a proscribed organisation and involved in attacks on the armed forces. They admitted to their offences before a magistrate and a trial court and were sentenced to death.

Convict Farhan, son of Seen Gul, was member of a proscribed organisation and involved in killing innocent civilians and attacking the personnel of law enforcement agencies and the armed forces. The attacks resulted in the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector Jan Daraz Khan, Subedar Muhammad Irfan, Naib Subedar Abudullah and 12 other soldiers and injuries to 18 soldiers of the armed forces/Frontier Constabulary.

The convict admitted to his offences before the magistrate and the trial court and was awarded death sentence.

Convicts Khalay Gul, son of Niaz Min Gul, and Nazar Moon, son of Akimoon, were members of a proscribed organisation and involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies. The two admitted to their offences before the magistrate and the trial court and were sentenced to death.

Convict Nek Maeel Khan, son of Amal Khan, was a member of a proscribed organisation and involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies. He was also found in possession of explosives. The convict admitted to his offences before the magistrate and the trial court and was awarded death sentence.

Convict Akbar Ali, son of Bakhtiar, was a member of a proscribed organisation and involved in killing civilians Shahi Rahman and Badiur Rahman — both members of a village defence committee in Swat. He was also found in possession of firearms. The convict admitted to his offences before the magistrate and the trial court and was awarded death sentence.
