GILGIT: A young man and a woman were killed for honour in Gilgit on Sunday, the police said, who have also arrested the alleged murderer.

An official of Jutial police station told Dawn on condition of anonymity that a young man aged 22 and a woman of same age were murdered in Damot area of Khumar.

Both the victims were residents of Khumar area.

The police official said they had arrested brother of the woman on charge of the double murder. He added that the arrested man had confessed to the crime.

The official said the two were shot dead on suspicion of having illicit relations.

An FIR has been registered against the accused.

After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to their families.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old youth identified as Babar Ali allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in Napura locality of Gilgit.

According to police, Ali allegedly shot himself in the head with a pistol inside his home. He was shifted immediately to the District Headquarters Hospital, Gilgit, where he was declared dead.

Police conducted autopsy and registered a case.

3G/4G SERVICES INTRODUCED: The Special Communications Organisation (SCO), a public sector telecommunications service provider in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, started the much-awaited 3G and 4G internet services to its customers in GB on Sunday.

SCO became the first and only cellular service network in AJK and GB to provide third generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology.

According to a press release issued by SCO sector office Gilgit, the internet service will continue on a trial basis and can be accessed free of cost until further notice. It said the SCO mobile phone SIMs, for the purpose, were available at the organisation’s franchises in the area.
