LAHORE: Three matches were decided on the first day of the Nine-a-side Shezan Hockey Gold Cup at the National Hockey Stadium here on Thursday.

Six teams, all named after Pakistan’s former hockey greats, are competing. Each match lasts 35 minutes with halves of 17-minutes each.

It is pertinent to mention that all the six sides have senior and junior internationals in their lineups.

In the first match, Tanvir Dar-IX defeated Brigadier M.H.Atif-IX 2-0 as Awais-ur-Rehman (25) Babar Bashir (33) earned the scoring honour.

In the second match, a solitary goal by Asad on penalty-corner helped Munir Dar-IX defeat Afzal Manna-IX 1-0. Asad struck the goal in the 32nd minute.

A decisive goal from Zeeshan Bukhari in the 30th minute also enabled Afzal Manna-IX to earn 1-0 victory against Tanvir Dar-IX who failed to maintain their winning streak, after beating M.H Atif-XI in the opener.
