KOHAT: Six labourers were killed and two injured when an under-construction gate collapsed in Shindand area of the Frontier Region of Kohat on Sunday.

The Bab-i-Jawaki gate, being constructed at the boundary of the district with the adjacent tribal region near the cadet college Kohat on Rawalpindi road, was ready for putting up its roof when it fell down.

As a result, six workers belonging to various parts of the province were buried alive while two were rescued and shifted to the KDA hospital.

The deceased included Mohammad Bilal of Kohat, Fazalur Rehman of Orakzai Agency, Satameen of Mardan, Zahid Noor of Shahpur (Kohat), Kareem Khan and Saifullah of Ghamkol Afghan refugee camp. The injured were identified as Naimatullah of Tangi Banda and Alif Khan of Ghamkol camp.

Witnesses said that the incident occurred when a pillar of the gate collapsed, bringing down the whole structure. The local people pulled out the bodies and the injured from the rubble and shifted them to hospital.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives after autopsy whereas the injured were under treatment.
