Bilawal Bhutto addresses party workers here on Thursday.

LAHORE: PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari alleged on Thursday that Nawaz Sharif was fomenting confrontation between the judiciary and parliament and that both the former prime minister and dictator Pervez Musharraf would have to face accountability for their misdeeds.

He told party workers Mr Sharif’s claim that the recent decisions of the apex court are “person-specific” had no grounds, as he only wanted to collapse the system for his personal interest and divert public attention from the real issues.

“Nawaz Sharif is a master of political stunts and is showing his gimmicks even today by talking of supremacy of parliament and sanctity of vote,” Mr Bhutto-Zardari said.

“The two issues never figured in his policies during his four years in power as he seldom graced the parliament … I hope that the Election Commission will continue doing its work [of holding Senate and general elections] as per schedule.”

He held the PML-N leadership itself responsible for the situation it is in, saying the ruling party refused to pay the opposition’s advice of not allowing a disqualified person to head the party. He said that both Sharif and Gen Musharraf would have to face accountability. He said he feared Mr Sharif’s narrative that he was disqualified unjustly would gain currency if Gen Musharraf was exonerated from the accountability process.

“There will be a question mark on the [impartiality] of the judiciary until Musharraf is not made accountable for his misdeeds.”

He said the nation could hardly afford the politics of Imran who proudly called Taliban their brainchild, a reference to PTI’s alliance with JUI-S chief Maulan Samiul Haq.

The PPP leader also visited the residence of Munoo Bhai and condoled with the family of the late Urdu columnist. Through hologram technology, he also addressed party’s membership drive event in the City.
